Weheat is re-engineering heat pumps because we believe this product plays a key role in the energy transition and deserves radical innovation. We redesign everything starting at the circuit board level to make heating affordable and simple. Mechanical engineering is at the heart of this: every bracket, seal, and assembly sequence matters when you are building a product that needs to be reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective at scale. 

Weheat has thousands of heat pumps in the field, and every one of them started as a CAD model in Duizel. This role is about designing systems that hold up in the real world: under vibration, thermal cycling, varied installation conditions, and the demands of serial production. Your work runs from early concept to validation in our own climate chamber, often within days. 

A big part of this role is solving the mechanical challenges that define a great heat pump. You work on controlling sound and vibrations, selecting the right materials for performance, durability, and manufacturability, and making optimal use of the limited space inside the unit while integrating all required components. Experience with acoustic or vibration-related design, smart material selection, and compact system integration is a strong advantage. 

Your Mission 

You ensure that all parts of the heat pump come together as a coherent whole, from connecting the EPP housing components and designing the heat loop to specifying the right fastener for the job. Your ideas become physical quickly: from CAD model to prototype in our own factory and climate chamber, often within days. 

The Challenge 

  • Mechanical Design & Integration: Design and optimise the mechanical architecture of heat pump systems, ensuring all components, from EPP housing parts to the heat loop, come together as a coherent, manufacturable whole. Create compact, serviceable assemblies that make optimal use of the available space inside the heat pump. 

  • Sound, Vibration & Durability: Develop solutions that reduce sound and vibrations in the product and help ensure stable performance in real-life conditions. Design for robustness under thermal cycling, installation variation, and long-term use. 

  • Material Selection: Select the right materials for each application, balancing strength, durability, thermal behavior, cost, manufacturability, and product quality. Make material choices that support both product performance and scalable production. 

  • DFM & Tolerancing: Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles to reduce production complexity and cost. Define tolerances, conduct stack-up analyses, and work closely with Wefabricate to make sure designs are production-ready. 

  • 3D CAD & 2D Drawings: Own the CAD model and drawing set for your components and assemblies. Work in Siemens NX (preferred) or SolidWorks and keep documentation aligned with the PLM toolchain. 

  • Prototyping & Testing: Translate CAD into physical prototypes quickly using our in-house facilities. Design and run validation tests in the climate chamber and iterate based on results. 

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with hardware, firmware, and production teams to make sure your designs perform in the field and scale in the factory. Use DFMEA and structured development methods to manage risk across the product lifecycle.
